Chinese New Year

Exploding Couture at the David H. Koch Theater
Suspended installation with stage costumes and accessories by E. V. Day. I went on Free Public Viewing night, which coincided with their Jewish Singles Night, so until I realized what was going on, I didn't understood why I was the only one looking up and everyone else was looking at everyone else. My favourite! I can't remember which show this dress came from though. :(

For me, the most memorable part of this portion of the show was the violence and the sound; the crinkling-rumble of the mylar being body-slammed into while it swung thrillingly-dangerously over your head.

This portion was silky, alluring, and slightly disturbing. Nympth-like female performers in wet/sheer garments glided across a giant pool of water hanging a feet or two above the audience.

Chinese New Year celebration at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Headless! The lens fogged up immediately upon the transition from freezing winter to sticky, humid greenhouse.

Mask Change, on left. It was really cool; I had never heard of the performance until I saw it last year. Turns out, it's a traditional and highly-guarded art form that began in Sichuan opera 300 years ago. The performer changed masks several times, blue, green, red, black, faster than I could blink; each mask had a different expression. I am still baffled as to what he did with the masks he took off. If you're curious, read more here or watch this Sichuan Opera video from 01:35 to 01:38 »

Nope, I don't know a single person in this photo, but I like it. I think it's the near identical shade of suede-browns all across the photo that makes it work.
